Introduction

The UAE government introduced juvenile work permits for young people to get part-time work in the United Arab Emirates. Certain rules must be followed by employers in the United Arab Emirates while hiring someone on a juvenile work permit. The juvenile work permit came into effect for teenagers on 2nd February 2022. If an expatriate is a teenager and wants to do training or part-time work anywhere inside the country. Then it is possible after the applicant for a juvenile work permit meets up the eligibility criteria and all of the requirements.

UAE Juvenile Work Permit

In UAE, children who are under the age of 15 can not work. Only the teenagers aged between 15 to 18 years have some leniency to work in the United Arab Emirates. But no full-time job should be done and employers must not hire teenagers for the full-time job. So, UAE Juvenile Work Permit are the types of employment permit issued to the expatriates and eligible individuals to work for limited hours for a bounded period under any employer. If you do not want to work and just want to take special training. Then the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation offer training permits to children aged between 12 years to 18 years.

UAE Juvenile Work Permit Requirement

Earlier, no work permit was issued to anyone under 18. The new provision which came into effect in the year 2022 gives service to young teens between 15 to 18 to get a work permit. This is also only granted when the UAE Juvenile work permit requirements are met. Requirements are:

  • Consent Letter- Minor who wants to apply for a juvenile work permit should take the permission letter or consent letter from their parents or current guardians.
  • Birth certificate- It is mandatory to submit the birth certificate for obtaining a juvenile work permit. To ensure that the applicant has attained the legal age i.e; 15 or less than 18.
  • Health fitness certificate- Employer may ask for the physical health fitness certificate to ensure that the minor is healthy. The health certificate must be granted by approved and granted medical authorities.
  • Residency visa- Expatriates in UAE have to submit a copy of their valid residency visa while submitting an application for a juvenile work permit. A copy of the parent's residency visa must have to be submitted too.

Conditions for obtaining a  juvenile work permit in UAE

  • You are not below 15 years. Your age is between 15 years to eighteen years.
  • Minor with work-permit can not do the job which is not allowed under UAE labor law for people below 18.
  • The employer hiring the teenager must have a valid trade license.
  • Fees for a juvenile work permit must be paid.

Prohibited jobs 

Minors in UAE can not do certain jobs and get employed at some places, like:

  • Strenuous jobs- Minors are strictly prohibited from doing any kind of hazardous job which can harm their physical mental health.
  • Jobs that can risk the minor's safety.
  • Working at industrial companies at night time is strictly prohibited according to the UAE labor law for minors.
  • Minors can not work on national or public holidays.
  • Full-time work is also prohibited.
  • It is determined by ministerial decree the different types of jobs minors are allowed to undertake.

Validity

Minor recruited by the employer in UAE can work inside UAE for one year only. Juvenile Work Permit is also a suitable option for the individual looking out for a few hours of employment only.

Documents required for the juvenile work permit

  • Minor valid passport and residency visa
  • Parents valid passport and residency visa
  • Part-time job contract
  • Filled application
  • Recent photograph
  • Health certificate and no objection certificate (from parents)

UAE Juvenile Work Permit Application

The work permit of the expatriate minor in the UAE will be sponsored by their employer. Companies or employers can apply for an eligible minor juvenile work permit through the TASHEEL Centre inside the United Arab Emirates. After the fee submission and the completion of processing via the TASHEEL service center. The juvenile work permit can be printed or acquired after approval via MOHRE.

Conclusion

UAE Juvenile Work Permit can be obtained by the minor who will only work for a few hours in the year. Or for the minor who wants to undertake the minor project or part-time employment. Minors working in UAE also have to continue their studies along with part-time work.
